leap year
I figured that since leap year only comes around once every four years that it ought to be celebrated in style. Rather than just observing the day like I would any other, I looked up some random facts about leap year and why it is special...
1. The chance of being born on leap year is about 1 in 1500
2. There are about 187,000 people in the US and 4 million people in the world who were born on February 29th.
3. The leap year phenomenon was created in 46 B.C, and later amended, when Julius Caesar realized that the number of days in a year did not exactly coincide with how long it actually took the earth to rotate around the sun.
4. It is said that on February 29th, ladies may propose marriage to any single gentleman, and he will be cursed with bad luck should he turn her down.
5. According to English law, February 29th was ignored and had no legal status.
6. There is now in existence the Worldwide Leap Year Birthday Club and the Worldwide Leap Year Festival.
7. Century years are leap years if they were divisible by 400. So, 2000 was a Leap Year, but 1900 was not.
8. Today our year is 365.2425 days, off from our solar year by .00031, or one day's error over 4,000 years.

flash back
My sister and me...
4 years ago:I was a junior in high school, I was also a cheerleader at Parowan High School. Our basketball team made it to the state championship for the first time ever. It was the most fun by far that I ever had at a state tournament. We were the underdogs the whole time. We weren't expected to win our first game, but we did by about ten points. The semi-finals game happened to be one of the best that I had ever been to. We were able to beat the expected winner of the state tournament by a three point basket in the last three seconds. It was SO much fun! Then we played in the state championship game. That game wasn't nearly as good; however, we were ahead the whole time and finished in 1st place! As a cheerleader, that is definitely a very exciting experience.
The Present:
I got a call from my sister, who is now a cheerleader, on friday night and she was near hysterics out of excitement. She started out by asking me if I had heard the news? Naturally I was confused because I had absolutely no idea what she was talking about. She went on to explain that Parowan's boys basketball team just won the semi-final game and were going to be playing in the state championship the next day. A couple hours later my mom texted me (she happens to be the cheer coach) and told me that I should come and watch the game on saturday night. I decided that it could be a fun experience, so the next day I proceeded to take the two hour drive to Richfield for the game. It was fun because they were playing against the same team that we played back when I was a junior. And let me tell you, they make a big deal about these state championship games. However, it wasn't as sweet as it was 4 years ago because we didn't come off conquerer this year. I was still able to enjoy myself reminiscing and catching up with friends that I hadn't seen in a while. Good times.

here kitty kitty...
At times I have been very interested in psychology. What really goes on inside of our head and where exactly do all our thought processes come from and such? Another question that has really interested me is this...where do dreams come from? What exactly is our subconscious thinking when it produces images in our mind while we are in deep sleep?
My subconscious produced a doozer last night. I have absolutely no idea where it came from. Let me try and explain. I was in this room with about six or seven cats. It was just the cats and me. There were couches on two of the walls, much like the set up of my current place of residence. On the floor in between the two couches, there was a rug that seemed to be magical. The cats wouldn't get off of the rug. They were all walking around but not one of them stepped off of the magical rug. This is just the beginning, it gets much stranger. Every once in a while I would hit the floor right by where I was sitting and a few of the cats would just disappear, never to be seen again. After I would hit the floor I would pick up one of the cats, pull off a little bit of its fur, and throw it onto the magical rug. And, poof! The little bits of said fur would turn into whole new cats that would start pacing the rug with all of the others.
So where exactly do any of these crazy images, thoughts, etc. come from? There is no way that dream makes sense in any dimension. I must secretly be going insane from all of my homework or something. There must be some explanation!

back to elementary
Remember the days when you would bring home a test and your parents would hang it on the fridge because they were so proud of you? Well, I do. And since I have come to college I have been hoping to get a good enough grade that I would want to hang on my fridge. Today I succeeded, but due to a couple of restraints (the test was taken online, there isn't room on my fridge, etc.) I decided that by blog would have to substitute for my fridge. Which means that you, my faithful readers, will have to substitute as the siblings that get to look at the accomplishment hanging on said fridge.

the essence of time
Time seems to be but a fleeting thing for me this semester. I tend to go to school all day and work all night. This makes it hard for me to even see my roommates...who I live with. I'm working on fixing this problem, but I don't think that I will come up with any resolutions until around the end of April or Mayish. I will blame my recent lack of blogging on that fact. I started my program this semester which means that I have some great time restraints. Forgive me if I am not as attentive to this blog as I should be...I will try my best to be vigilant.

just for starters...
I am a convert to google blogger. It appears to be a good place to host my blog so I thought that I would try it out. However; if, for some reason, you want to see any of my previous posts they can be easily found here. I hope that my musings are at least a little bit enjoyable :)
